Trip/excursion Guided tour/tour Hiking

The forest is constantly in motion - while new trees grow, others decay and form valuable habitats. Dead wood is not a sign of stagnation, but the basis for a species-rich ecosystem. This free offer invites you to explore the region in the company of DWV-certified hiking guides.

+++Start of registration: 17.03.2025+++

The route leads through the Teutoburg Forest and impressively demonstrates the importance of deadwood. Mossy trunks, lying branches and decaying giant trees provide a habitat for fungi, lichens and countless insects. Beetle species, birds and small mammals in particular benefit from this natural cycle. The hike takes us from the Barenbergweg along varied forest paths and opens up breathtaking views as far as the Johannisegge with the Luisenturm and Ravensberg Castle. On a clear day, you can enjoy sweeping views over the Wiehengebirge and Münsterland.
