The Kunstverein Ibbenbüren e.V. is planning to present the work of Alfred Gockel in Ibbenbüren from 21 June - 20 July 2025 in collaboration with Galerie Hunold. The exhibition will show works from the last 50 years of painting, etching and serigraphy, sculptures and video.
Alfred Gockel is an artist who inspires with his ideas. Particularly in the USA, he has impressively and successfully captured the public for European art movements with his works and live performances. He works in painting, printmaking and sculpture. He began with art prints, for which he founded his own publishing house. In 2006, he designed the official poster of the American committee for the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. He became known for his public art with the "Yellow Angel" sculpture at the Kamener Kreuz junction and the sculpture at the Münster - Hiltrup motorway exit.
His works consist of abstract figures and forms that are sensitively related to one another. In addition, there are figurative works that also refer to the styles of earlier painters or the humorous interpretations of a word. He also draws inspiration from Kandinsky, Chagall, Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró. "Art influences culture and imitates it at the same time," says Gockel.
With his expressive use of bright primary colours, Alfred Gockel has created an extraordinary style that is unique.
Sculptures made of bronze, silver alloys, acrylic, aluminium and steel complement his work.
