The Blues Festival Schöppingen, a firm favourite in the German blues scene and known for its ambitious selection of artists, is celebrating its 32nd edition this year. On 7 and 8 June, the Vechtebad will once again be transformed into a vibrant meeting place for blues lovers. The organisers are proud to present a line-up that brings together both established international stars and exciting new talent from the United States.
An absolute highlight of this year's festival is the signing of Shemekia Copeland. The American singer is one of the most successful and respected blues and roots artists of our time. Her impressive record of 15 Blues Music Awards and seven Grammy nominations speaks for itself and promises a concert experience in a class of its own.
The Cold Stares bring a slightly different, but no less captivating sound to Schöppingen. Since their formation in 2009, the band has not primarily made a name for itself as a blues formation, but has celebrated success in the hard rock sales charts. Their song "Mojo Hand" gained worldwide fame when it was used in the trailer for the action game "Cyberpunk 2077", which led to over ten million YouTube streams. Her performance promises an energetic mix of rock and blues elements.
The festival traditionally also emphasises presenting new and up-and-coming artists from the USA to the audience. This year, the young bluesman Jovin Webb will be celebrating his German premiere in Schöppingen. His fresh interpretation of the blues is sure to be a hit. Also travelling from the States is the quartet The Delta Generators, which will impress with traditional blues and R&B and is led by frontman Brian Templeton, who was previously active with the Radio Kings.
Another exciting discovery for the German audience is likely to be GA-20. The trio around guitarist and bandleader Matthew Stubbs has made a name for itself within the blues scene with raw Chicago blues, as heard on albums such as "Lonely Soul" or "Does Hound Dog Taylor: Try It... You Might Like It!". After two line-up changes, they now present themselves with Cody Nilsen (guitar, vocals) and Josh Kiggans (drums) and celebrate their apparent German premiere in Schöppingen.
For fans of an unconventional blues sound, The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band is an absolute must. The trio will delight you with a wild mix of delta, country blues and hillbilly, rousing live shows, old instruments and a rustic stage outfit.
The combination of blues with other genres also finds its place at the festival. Chicago-based Argentinian Ivan Singh presents his unique Latin blues, while Nigerian Keziah fuses traditional blues with funk and Yoruba rhythms from his homeland. The diverse line-up will be complemented by artists such as Luke Winslow-King (blues, jazz), Cristina Vane (rock, blues, country, bluegrass), Justina Lee Brown (Afro-pop, soul, blues) and Mojo Hand & Luca (blues, funk). The Sazerac Swingers will be the only German band to provide special accents with their jazz and swing.

With this high-calibre and varied line-up, the Blues Festival Schöppingen once again underlines its importance as one of the most important addresses for blues music in Germany and offers both die-hard fans and new discoverers an unforgettable festival experience.
