Not far from the Deutz Bridge is the Cologne water gauge, built in 1951. The gauge mechanically measures the water level of the Rhine at river kilometre 688. The current water level is displayed by the gauge. Detailed information about the water level of the Rhine is provided by the Cologne Flood Protection Centre.
