The Hamborn Castle estate is now owned by the non-profit organization "Schloss Hamborn Rudolf Steiner Werkgemeinschaft".
The Hamborn Castle estate was created in the middle of the 19th century from two farmsteads brought together by the von Hartmann family as an estate.
The most striking building in Hamborn Castle is the castle itself. Made of natural stone and modeled on the Weser Renaissance style, the building was constructed in several phases: The east wing was built around 1850, followed by the west wing with the current main entrance after 1913. After a fire in 1928, the castle was rebuilt and acquired by the Werkgemeinschaft in 1931.
In addition to a Waldorf school with a boarding school for children and young people, the Rudolf Steiner Werkgemeinschaft also runs a retirement home, a rehabilitation clinic and vocational training with a nursery and workshops as well as a farm with agriculture and forestry, a bakery and a cheese dairy.
