Swim in a historic monument
The Schwimmoper is impressive even from the outside with its high, almost free-floating exterior walls - a truly extraordinary piece of architecture. Built in the 1950s, today it is a wonderful example of the architectural style of its time. It was given its name by the people of Wuppertal shortly after its completion, because it was unclear for a long time after the war whether an indoor swimming pool or a new building for the Barmen Opera House, which had been destroyed in the war, was to be erected on this site. Incidentally, the building was simply known as the Stadtbad (municipal pool) until 2019, but today it is officially the Schwimmoper.
Good to know: Swimming championships are held here in addition to regular public swimming sessions.
