Villa Jordaan

The picturesque Haus Rothenberge, also known as Villa Jordaan, offers a unique view over the Münsterland Bay. The villa is located on the hilltop of the "Roter Berg". The property includes extensive gardens and parkland, as well as a tea house with a thatched roof.

The villa regularly hosts events organised by the University of Münster.

Haus Rothenberge was built in the 1920s as a kind of 18th century 'maison de palsance'. The Dutch banker Jan Jordaan and his wife 'Bertha' (van Heek) commissioned the Münsterland architect Alfred Hensen for it. The magnificent villa is located on the "Red Hill". Its elevated position opens up a wide view over the Münsterland bay. The interior design was in the style of the French Rococo.

Since the 1960s, the villa has been used as a country home of the University of Münster for conferences and seminars.

In 2013, extensive renovation work and fire protection renovations were carried out. Since then, the villa has shone in new, time-honoured splendour.
