Nature lovers really get their money’s worth in Wilnsdorf: The densely forested area on the south eastern foothills of the Rothaar Mountains offers exceptionally good relaxation opportunities. The developed and dense network of cycle/hiking trails invites you to relax and enjoy some active leisure time. A total of 200 km of hiking trails in the eleven districts of the municipality of Wilnsdorf lead to a multitude of sights.
Since the 16th century, legend has it that the fabled blacksmith “Wieland” lived near Wilnsdorf. That is why Wilnsdorf was also known as “Wielandisdorf” in times gone by. The municipality’s sights include historical and in part protected buildings such as the shaft tower in the Niederdielfen district, the water mill in Niederdielfen, the Iron Age smelting furnace in Obersdorf, the Heimatstube museum at the chapel school in Rinsdorf, the old village smithy in the Wilden district, the former detention building in Wilnsdorf, the twin-naved church in Obersdorf and the hermitage pilgrimage destination at the Clarissan convent. In Wilndorf, the Volkskundliche Museum (ethnographic museum) invites you to visit with a large mining exhibition.
Hikers can also take a look at the Siegerland’s mining history along the “Auf Bergmannspfad” (On the Miner’s Path) themed trail. Over 15.5 kilometres of the trail pass by old tunnels and pits, providing wonderful views of the Siegerland.
The multi-award winning Siegerland Motorway Church is also worth visiting.
