Jesuitenkolleg / Mauritiusgymnasium

The Bürener castle was demolished at the beginning of the 18th century in favor of a new building, today's college. The college was supplemented by a number of outbuildings (including the farm, the Café Stilbruch building).

The layout of the college is a rectangular, three-storey building in a horseshoe shape around a courtyard measuring around 50 x 40 meters. Although the building is simple in its design, the eastern ends of the two wings, which are made of sandstone, are particularly impressive. Portals, round arches, Corinthian columns, cranked cornices, vases and pedestals adorn this front side. The staircases with the towers in the two corners of the courtyard were built at a later date.

The two gates set perpendicular to the wing, which are an eloquent testimony to 18th century blacksmithing, fit in beautifully. If you enter through the south gate, you will find yourself in front of the real gem, the most beautiful baroque church in the whole of NRW: the Jesuit church Maria Immaculata. But the interior (just mention the magnificent main staircase) is no less elegant.
