The so-calles Church of Peace " To the Holy Angels" is a Roman Catholic church in the district of Fusternberg.
The most unusual church design for Wesel after the Second World War was by the Cologne architect Hans Schilling. In 1958, the new construction of the Friedenskirche ‘Zu den heiligen Engeln’ was completed on the foundations of the Fusternberg Fort, where an emergency church had already been set up in the basement in 1947.
The new church utilises the basement of the fort with its curved shape and two rows of basket-arched windows one above the other to create the crypt and, above it, the chancel, which rises high like the prow of a ship, with a crown of windows under the base of the roof and a side, louvred window wall in matching brickwork. Following the choir, the space widens out in a cross shape with a transept, and a large gabled roof unites all the components.
