Directions
The tour starts at the Tourist Information in the FARB. The route then leads through the park - the green lung of the city - and on to Marbeck. On paths through fields and meadows, the incredible expanse of the landscape can be enjoyed. After a detour to the Marbeck Heimathaus, the route crosses the Kranenmeer nature reserve and via the Haart-Venn, cyclists reach Raesfeld, where the "Freiheit" and the moated castle with outer castle, main castle and baroque castle chapel can be visited. On the way back to Borken, the route leads through the farming community of Grütlohn and with old, rural estates. The atmosphere there is relaxed and peaceful - just what holidaymakers are looking for. Before returning to the district town of Borken, cyclists pass Haus Döring, an old moated castle reminiscent of times gone by. To round off the tour, you can stop off at a café or ice-cream parlour on the market square or visit the FARB, where you can view parts of the tour from above on the interactive city model.
Getting There
Travelling by train via Borken station. The station is served by regional trains from Essen, Bottrop and Gladbeck.
Arrival by car via the A3 (Oberhausen-Arnheim) or A31 (Oberhausen-Emden) motorways. In each case, take the exit for the B67 federal road. Then follow the signs in the direction of Borken.
Track Signage
For individual and flexible route planning as well as easy orientation during the cycling tour, cycling by numbers is a good choice.
By following the network of junctions, you will find a junction at crossroads or junctions. The number of the junction is clearly visible above the destination sign of the familiar red and white signage.
In addition to the local and long-distance destinations with kilometre information, inserts under the signposts show the directions and numbers of the nearest junctions. Intermediate signposts take you to the next destination signpost.
Additional Information
FARB
The Forum Altes Rathaus Borken, known as FARB for short, is located in the centre of Borken. It is a new cultural centre and also the town's museum. The building ensemble consists of the old town hall and the Gothic Heilig Geist church. Here guests can experience art and culture, learn about history and enjoy their leisure time.
Marbeck Heritage Centre
If the cycle tour has made you tired, guests can refresh themselves at the Marbeck Heritage Centre. There is a marvellous water treading pool there. Heritage houses are typical of Borken and the surrounding area and serve as a meeting place for the community and for the preservation of customs and traditions.
Raesfeld Castle
The impressive Raesfeld Castle estate from the 14th-17th centuries is located in the centre of the Westmünsterland park landscape. The neighbouring zoo invites you to take a walk and enjoy a relaxing stay in the countryside.
House Döring
Haus Döring is the original form of all Münsterland moated castles and was probably built in the 12th century on a circular hill surrounded by a double moat. It can only be viewed from the outside, from a distance.
