Schloss Velen
Directions
Velen Castle is a picturesque starting point for a cycle tour along the Bocholter Aa. The cycle path first leads through the wild and romantic historic Velen zoo, before quickly reaching the district of Ramsdorf. A visit to the castle and museum of the same name is well worthwhile. Accompanied by fields and meadows, the signposted cycle path leads to the district town of Borken. The mighty Gemen Castle greets you right at the entrance to the town. Surrounded by the waters of the Bocholter Aa, it offers a marvellous sight.
The cycle path now follows the course of the little river westwards. Shortly after Borken, the beautiful Pröbstingsee lake awaits. The lakeside restaurant invites you to take a break and offers a wonderful beer garden with a view of the lake in summer. With the gentle Bocholter Aa in view, the cycle route reaches the southern districts of Rhede. Shortly afterwards, the deep blue Bocholter Aaasee catches the eye.
On the other side of the lake, the LWL textile factory with its interesting exhibitions is well worth a visit. After just a few turns of the pedals, you reach Bocholt's cosy city centre. The colourful hustle and bustle around the historic town hall is best observed from a café.
On the way to Isselburg, the Bocholter Aa is now your constant companion. Pure cycling fun awaits beneath the wide horizon with another highlight at the end of the tour. The mighty moated castle of Anholt is one of the most beautiful buildings far and wide. Coffee and cake on the castle terrace round off a marvellous cycle tour through the western Münsterland.
