Pröbstingsee
Pröbstingsee
Directions
Get on your bike and set off straight away or pedal across the Pröbstingsee lake first? Whether from the land or the water, the banks of the Pröbstingsee lake always offer a picturesque view. The Bocholter Aa accompanies cyclists on the next few kilometres to Rhede. The pleasant town invites you to take your first break in the shadow of its mighty church.
Along the German-Dutch border, the landscape shows its gentle side. The flat profile of the cycle tour makes the day a real pleasure. The Vardingholter Venn impresses with its raised bogs that stretch out below the wide horizon. It is worth taking some time to observe the flora and fauna.
Burlo marks the northernmost point of the cycle tour with the Mariengarden monastery, which is over 800 years old. The cycle route heads south past the monastery lake and only turns off towards Borken shortly before the Pröbstingsee lake.
A detour to Gemen Castle is a must for fans of historical buildings. Those interested in culture will be particularly drawn to the FARB museum on Borken's market square. The cycle path leaves Borken town centre through the town park and reaches the historic Haus Döring. A few minutes' ride later, you reach the starting point at Pröbstingsee, where the lakeside café offers a great opportunity to round off the cycle tour with a drink.
Getting There
Travelling by train is via Borken station, which is regularly served by trains from Essen and Bottrop. The regional bus R51 connects the railway station with the Haus Pröbsting stop. It is also possible to start the cycle tour in Borken town centre.
By car from the A3 (Oberhausen-Arnheim) or A31 (Oberhausen-Emden) motorways via the B67 federal road, then follow the signs to the "Pröbsting leisure area".
Parking
There are car parks on both sides of the Pröbstingsee recreation area. There is a charging station for electric cars in the western car park.
Track Signage
The cycle route is not signposted, but runs entirely on the Münsterland junction network. The use of a GPX track is recommended for easy navigation.
Additional Information
If you want to recharge your e-bike battery, there are numerous options in Borken and Rhede. The boathouse at Pröbstingsee also has a charging station.
