On this day, around half a million men and women in 121 countries ride out in fine threads on classic motorbikes to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men's mental health.
The “Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride” takes place on May 18 worldwide at various locations – including Gemünd. The ride for a good cause around the event location will last about an hour. All participants are encouraged to ride classic or vintage motorcycles. Additionally, they should dress like a true “Gentleman” – meaning a suit and bow tie instead of leather jackets! But the machines are not the most important thing: The main thing is to convey the message about health.
Wolfgang Meyer, host for the “Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride” through the Eifel region, says: “You can do good while also seeing good. It makes sense to engage in health prevention because practically everyone knows someone who is affected or could be.”
The ride is for a good cause: The tour unites motorcyclists from around the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men's mental health. All riders can register at www.gentlemansride.com.
Anyone can donate, not just those who are registered. “Everyone who donates online will immediately receive a donation receipt,” explains Wolfgang Meyer. “On our ride's page www.gentlemansride.com/rides/germany/gemünd, you can view the individual participants and donate there.”
The Society for Economic Development, Tourism and Events Schleiden mbH (GfW) supports the project. Bianka Renn, managing director of the GfW: “Through the donations, programs are financed that aim not only at improved health for motorcyclists but also for the general public.”
Last year, around 115,000 riders participated in the campaign worldwide, 77 of them at the ride in Gemünd.
Further support comes from local clubs such as KG Rot-Weiß Gemünd and JGV Malsbenden. Fortuna hilft e.V. takes care of the little guests of the event with a participation program. Live music will be provided by the rockabilly band “The Rocking Maniacs” following the ride at Marienplatz Gemünd.
