Who was this Dietrich anyway? He lived from 1423 to 1498 and ruled as an imperial count from 1457 to 1488. During his reign, he considerably increased his sphere of influence through acquisitions and a clever inheritance policy. Thus, from 1468, he could call himself Dietrich III Count of Manderscheid and Blankenheim, Lord of Schleiden and Jünkerath.
