After the festive parade, the anniversary year will kick off with an exciting opening week from 9 to 13 July 2025. There will be something for everyone, as visitors can look forward to five events of different genres. These include comedy, a children's concert, a youth concert, a choir anniversary and an open-air concert by the festival:philharmonie westfalen. Under the direction of Michael Zlabinger and supported by the festival:chor, Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony will be performed on the market square on Saturday, 12 July 2025. The famous final movement in particular, Schiller's "Ode to Joy", symbolises the vision of a global community and the message of freedom, brotherhood and human dignity.
