Tour: Espelkamp's roots "Under the oaks" - discovering the town's roots and their development
Where are Espelkamp's roots? The east of the town, between Isenstedter Straße and Frotheimer Weg, tells a lot about the origins, history and present of Espelkamp. From the "Gummibude" Naue through the first housing estate to the former fairground "Unter den Eichen". Today a place that has almost disappeared, "Unter den Eichen" was Espelkamp's largest open space in the first decade, a place for celebrations and festivals. The Mennonite congregation, founded in 1952, found its home in the immediate vicinity. To the west is the current school center of the Protestant regional church with its interesting, partially built-over history. The tour through this eastern part of Espelkamp ends at St. Thomas Church.
