Landscape hike with the "Volcano Gardeners" of the Eifelverein through the volcanic village of Steffeln to the Steffeln Volcano Garden. The former lava mining at the Steffelnkopf has decimated the volcanic cone, which used to be more than 600 m high. This exposed the volcanic layers inside. The exposed volcanic vent was converted into an experimental and educational volcano. Duration: approx. 2 hours, distance approx. 2.5 km, Info: Tel.: 06593-2369903, Price: adults 4.00 €, children 2.00 €, per family 10.00 €, No registration required
Experience Earth History: Volcano Garden Steffeln and Eichholzmaar
The landscape hike leads through the typical Eifel village of Steffeln, which has been awarded several times in the competition "Our Village Has a Future," past historic houses, old wayside crosses, and shrines. Many old farmhouses in the village are built from locally extracted volcanic stones, often solidified tuffs. The hike continues to the Volcano Garden Steffeln. The former lava extraction at Steffelnkopf has significantly diminished the once over 600 m high volcanic cone. This has exposed the volcanic layers inside. The exposed volcanic chimney has been transformed into a Research and Teaching Volcano.
Those who wish can then make a short detour (by car) with the guide to the Eichholzmaar.
