Versmold on the move - routes and means of transport in the past and present
Touring the town by bike
To get around Versmold has a few special features, which are mainly to do with the town's border situation. The historically marginal location away from main transport links still has an impact today. Footpaths ("Pättken") and roads in their course and development are examined by Rolf Westheider as examples.
Unpaved paths, cobblestones, asphalt and finally concrete paving - the nature of the roads within the town has changed again and again over the course of time. Interurban connections were and still are not ideal, and this also applies to the rail connection.
All of this should be explored by bike in the city center. The routes are not far and you are welcome to use the good old wire chair. The tour ends at the local history museum with a guided tour of the special exhibition on the 125-year history of the Teutoburg Forest Railway.
