Casemates are the vaults in fortifications, which were intended to protect against artillery fire with thick walls or serve as living and storage chambers.
However, the cheerful Düsseldorf folk have given their casemates on the Rhine terraces a different, more pleasure-oriented purpose. Five restaurants on the local riverbank make up their own small entertainment mile, where no gastronomic wish remains unfulfilled, from breakfast to a nightcap. Whether in the Café Bató, in an offshoot of the brewery Zum Schlüssel, whether in the Frankenheim Bistro or in the Gosch fishing boat - here nobody will go home either hungry or thirsty. Especially recommendable: a fruity sundowner at the Cocktail bar 112 - with sand between your toes and Caribbean sounds in your ears.
