It may seem strange to call a place of this modest size the Elephant Bar. But for owner Walid El Sheikh, there is no contradiction.
"The elephant is active both day and night and is a very social creature," he says, explaining the choice of name with a wink. He also has big plans. El Sheikh's declared aim is to bring sophisticated bar culture to the old town. To this end, he opened the Elephant Clubbar in the premises of the legendary Q-Stall, an Old Town institution that has been popular for more than two decades. Expectations were high, but Walid El Sheikh didn't even try to imitate the former cult club, instead creating a completely new ambience. With dark wood and lots of marble, he has created a modernist 60s interior where the well-mixed drinks are accompanied by funk, soul, hip-hop, jazz and electro sounds.
