...of Aachen’s history. When Aachen was still surrounded by its city wall, the only way to enter was through the Marschiertor or Ponttor gates. The western Nordtor gate from the 14th century still survives today with its fore and main castle. It’s particularly worth taking a walk here during the evening, when the Ponttor is illuminated in a special light.
