Klenkes

This statue shows the “Klenkes”, the Aachen form of greeting.

Aacheners greet each other from afar with the “Klenkes”, a stretched out little finger. The origins of this statue lie in the needle industry, when bad needles were “ussjeklenkt” (taken out) with the little finger. So it was that the little finger became the “Klenkes”.
