...of the “Rheinisch-Westfälischen Technischen Hochschule Aachen”, or Aachen technical university, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1865. This marked the start of the success story of the technical university. Today, with over 44,000 students, it is the largest university for technical subjects in Germany, and is one of the few excellence universities in Germany.
