Church

The Libori Chapel on the Liboriberg is dedicated to the patron saint of the city and the archbishopric, St. Liborius.

The late baroque, outwardly inconspicuous Libori Chapel can be found outside the walls of the old town on the Liboriberg. From afar, the gilded peacock shines as a weather vane on the ridge turret. A peacock as a symbol of the veneration of St. Liborius also adorns the front above the canopy resting on pillars. Inscriptions show prayers and praises for the city and diocesan saint Liborius and give an indication of the builder and the year of construction, 1730. The chapel served as a stop on the annual Libori procession around the city.

Two baroque wayside shrines stand out on the outside: on the east side, a depiction of the transfer of the Liborius relics to Paderborn, and on the west side, a depiction of the visit of St. Martin of Tours to the deathbed of his diocesan neighbor Liborius of Le Mans. Visitors usually only have to look through the lattice window under the canopy to see the surprising interior. This simple little church has three precious late baroque altars, which are connected by a wall of doors. A total of 55 full figures and 14 winged angel heads can be seen here
