Garden paradise in the heart of East Westphalia

The castle is inhabited and can therefore only be viewed from the outside.

The castle was built in 1750.

The outer bailey extends in a horseshoe shape around the castle behind it. The street front stretches for almost 130 metres and is harmoniously structured by the central passageway and the octagonal pavilions at the sides. The outer bailey houses a small hussar museum and has been home to a private brewery for over 300 years.

Groups can celebrate in the castle's orangery and Schlaun barn "as in the days of the emperor". The palace park is laid out in the form of an English garden, with watercourses, ponds, groups of trees and individual trees, and a burial ground for the von Spiegel family. The collection of old giant trees was one of the reasons why the park was declared a nature reserve in 1949. The park has been part of the European Garden Network EGHN since 2007, making it one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe. The artists Henri Coole and Jenny Holzer created an ephemeral work of art in the park with carved poems on the giant trees, which attracts art connoisseurs from far and wide.
