The Mersmann ponds are located in the entrance area of the garden show.
A friendly lion's head shows the Mersmann water the way to Bad Lippspringe.
Waterspouts, often in the shape of lion heads, have been known as far back as the 5th century BC.
Carved from sandstone and modeled on the old head, the water of the Mersmann ponds now gushes out of the new mouth. However, the new lion's head does not have the often demonic appearance that is supposed to hold up a mirror to evil spirits and devils. The lion looks at the visitor rather thoughtfully or a little surprised, while the water bubbles merrily out of its mouth.
The Mersmannteiche ponds were extensively renaturalized in the course of the 2017 State Garden Show and are now an oasis come true.
