The monastery church in Gehrden, which dates back to the 12th century, has retained its Romanesque character to this day.

The parish church of St Peter and Paul, the former collegiate church of the Benedictine convent founded in 1142, was built around 1150 - 1190 as a Romanesque pillar basilica with baroque furnishings, transept, choir and west building and houses the largest historic bell ringing in Westphalia.



The north door from the 13th century is also unique. With its iron fittings and chiselled knocker with a demon's face,



In the castle park is the "Twelve Apostles' Lime Tree", which is around 500 years old. According to legend, nuns planted twelve individual lime trees so close together that their trunks grew into one.

The village of Gehrden was awarded the gold medal in the national competition "Our village should become more beautiful" in 1998.

Outside of mass, the church can only be viewed from the outside.

The monastery church is located in the town center.
