Furlbachtal - Naturschutzgebiet mit Selfie-Point SHS

One of the most beautiful stream valleys in the region is the Furlbach valley, which offers an impressive natural backdrop with a primeval forest-like character.

The nature reserve is covered with beech, oak, birch and alder trees. On some sandy dune sites, however, there are pine trees. Rare plant species in the Furlbach Valley include cotton grass, sundew, rosemary heather and cranberry in the boggy areas, as well as bog bilberry, royal fern, club moss and small wintergreen in the mixed pine forests. Seven-star and giant horsetail can be found at the springs.

The Furlbach Valley also offers ideal living conditions for birdlife. Black and great spotted woodpeckers, dippers, kingfishers, stock doves, woodcock and grey wagtails can all be spotted. The endangered fish species bullhead and brook lamprey, as well as brown trout, green frogs and common toads enjoy the good water quality. Rare dragonflies such as the peat mosaic dragonfly and the moss dragonfly live in the moors in the Furlbach valley.

The best way to explore the Furlbach valley is via the "Romantic Furlbach Valley" circular hiking trail, which has been awarded a blue kingfisher. If you want to extend the trail, use the signpost with the colored kingfisher, which means you are on the "Furlbachpfad".

On a small wooden bridge, just one meter above the water, you will find one of the 18 selfie points SHS. This gives you the opportunity to get to know the city and create a great memory: Stand on it, smile, take a photo and share it!
