Historic site

The Spanckenhof is one of the oldest buildings in Bad Wünnenberg's lower town.

Around 400 years after the Upper Town was founded, the first settlements were built at the foot of the mountain - today's Lower Town. In 1726, the former rentmaster Jobst Friedrich had the Spanckenhof built in the classical Baroque style as the first building in the valley. The building showcased the wealth of its high-ranking builder and the exterior of the house already represented his high status. Ignatius Spancken and his family came to Wünnenberg in the wake of the Prussians and bought the Spanckenhof. During this time, the Prussian government created the land registry and the land register. The names of the owners were entered. On this occasion, the name Spancken was given the completely undeserved honor of being forever linked to the old residence.

In 2013, the Spanckenhof once again suffered a serious fire. The clay ceilings and walls were severely damaged by the extinguishing work. Fortunately, the insurance money made it possible to start restoration work on the Spanckenhof in close consultation with the higher monument authority.

Today, the Spanckenhof is a meeting place and center of numerous activities.

The Stucksaal is undoubtedly the jewel of the Spanckenhof. Council meetings and selected events take place here. You can also get married in the special atmosphere of the stately ambience.

The Kunst&Kultur group organizes concerts, exhibitions, literature and theater performances here.

In addition, the Spanckenhof was home to Bad Wünnenberg Touristik GmbH between 2016 and February 2021.
