Commemoration of the liberation from the Napoleonic troops

One hundred years after the withdrawal of the French, the citizens of Enger wanted to commemorate the liberation from Napoleon's troops with a memorial. It was erected in 1913, "on the historic ground of the Elsternbusch", as it says on the back. The Duke of Saxony is said to have maintained a so-called "Vogelherd" (a place to catch birds, usually songbirds) here. According to the medieval understanding, a "Vogelherd" was supposed to figuratively stand for the ruler's closeness to the people.

The small hill was piled up from boulders from each of the nine districts. The engraved place names still refer to this today. Where the districts of Enger-Stadt, Pödinghausen and Oldinghausen meet is the triangular plot of land belonging to Sattelmeier Meier-Johann on Seelbornstraße, where the monument was ceremonially unveiled on November 8, 1913.
