The most beautiful late Gothic half-timbered house in Westphalia

The Remensniderhaus on Brüderstraße in Herford is a remarkable example of a bourgeois half-timbered building. It was built in 1521 by Heinrich Aldach, known as Remensnider, and is the artistically richest late Gothic half-timbered house in Westphalia. The figures depicted on the bays reveal to the viewer the religious world view of the people of the early 16th century. Christ is enthroned at the highest point, flanked by four saints, including the Virgin Mary, also surrounded by saints. The first floor shows the sinful world. The dragon of hell appears above the front door, and sinful characteristics such as anger, shamelessness and fornication are depicted on the bays.
