    Rebuilt on the same site 72 years after its destruction

    The Herford Synagogue is the seat of today's Jewish community of Herford-Detmold. The current building was rebuilt 72 years after its destruction during the November pogroms of 1938 on the site of the original synagogue on Komturstraße in Herford's Neustadt district. It was inaugurated on March 14, 2010, with Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany from 2006 to 2010, and Jürgen Rüttgers, then Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, among others, taking part in the ceremony.
