Castle from the Weser Renaissance

According to legend, the Saxon Duke Wittekind gathered his men at the bridge over the Warmenau in 783 before the Battle of the Hase against Charlemagne and commanded them from here (= Königsbrück). This is difficult to prove today; the only certainty is that the Saxons lost the battle.
Originally a Meierhof (Meier = administrator of a noble estate), Königsbrück Castle later became a noble knight's seat, long owned by the von Nagel family (approx. 1200 to 1585).
The lords of Königsbrück Castle were very influential and powerful for a long time: up to 136 farms were under their rule and had to pay taxes. The owners of Königsbrück were therefore able to build a classic manor house and then extend it as a castle in the 16th century during the Weser Renaissance. Today, only one wing of what was once a far more extensive complex still stands.
