The lake was created at the end of the 1970s and completed as a local recreation area in the early 1980s.

The "Funtastico" leisure center, the restaurants Breitengrad, See-Terrassen and Moses Hütte are located on the SchiederSee. The Schieder outdoor pool and a pony farm are also located in the immediate vicinity of the lake.
