The premises
The official prison is divided into two halves. One side contains two prison cells and a guardroom, which met the security and surveillance requirements of the time. The other half of the building was used as a fire station for the fire department, where fire-fighting equipment was stored. Today, this area houses an old high-pressure fire engine, a reminder of the important role of the fire department in the community.
Restoration and public accessibility
In 1992, the Hartum local history association took the initiative to restore the old official prison. With a great deal of commitment and dedication, the building was restored to its original state and made accessible to the public. The restoration has preserved an important piece of regional history, which today attracts visitors from near and far.
Visiting opportunities
Interested parties have the opportunity to visit the old official prison. These tours are available by prior arrangement with Ms. Bettina Hampel, who can be contacted on 0571 / 3988740. A visit not only offers the opportunity to get to know the architecture and the historic rooms, but also to learn more about the history of the official prison and its former use.
The old official prison in Hille is therefore not only a historic building, but also a living part of the regional identity that is worth discovering.
