    The stately oak was planted in 1871 by the Hövelhof municipal forester after returning from the German-French war.

    It is picturesquely situated in the middle of the 335-hectare municipal forest, very close to today's forester's lodge. In 1971, the friendship with the French twin town of Verrières - le - Buisson was solemnly sealed here.
