A building in motion

The Jahrhunderthalle Bochum was originally built in 1902 for the Düsseldorf trade exhibition; the Bochumer Verein für Bergbau und Gussstahlfabrikation was the client. The flexible steel construction made it possible to rebuild it as a gas power station in Bochum. The Jahrhunderthalle is thus an example of a purpose-built industrial building, which was built according to the specifications of engineering technology, not according to architectural plans.
