The origins of Hannover Colliery

The mine dates from 1857 and coal was mined here until the mid-1970s. Silent witnesses of these days are the power house and the striking Malakow Tower, which towers into the landscape like a giant fortress.

Making the work "Underground" accessible to young people

A visit to Hannover Colliery is also interesting for the little ones, as Zeche Knirps (Knirps Colliery) is connected to the industrial museum. At this mini mine, youngsters get to know the "underground" processes and can even become active themselves – just like their great-grandfather once did in the "Pütt". Before they get to work ("Maloche"), the little ones put on the appropriate miners' garb. Hannover Colliery and Knirps Colliery is therefore a true experience for the whole family.
