In the Boker Heide area, around the villages of Sande, Bentfeld and Anreppen, numerous lakes have been created by gravel and sand extraction in recent decades.

Lippesee, Nesthauser See, Brockhofsee, Rothesee, Heddinghauser See, Mühlensee, Jothesee, Bentfelder See, Nettelnbecker See, Holzbachsee, Korteteich or Rathsee - the list of quarry ponds in the so-called Lippeniederung around Sande, Bentfeld and Anreppen is long. What they all have in common is that they were created by gravel extraction. The "Senne suction dredger" is still active in some of them, such as Bentfeld, Heddinghauser or Brockhofsee, while others have long since become quiet, idyllic lakes. Most of them are privately owned and therefore not freely accessible, and many are leased to fishing clubs. The Lippesee and the neighboring Nesthauser See ("water ski lake") are different: Here you can enjoy numerous leisure activities on water and on land and stop off at attractive restaurants.

Direction

By car:
Take the A 33 freeway to the Pad-Schloß Neuhaus exit; then head towards Rheda-Wiedenbrück / Delbrück. At the Lippesee, turn left into the street Am Brockhof (signpost: Stadtentwässerungsbetrieb). At the next junction, turn right into Gesselner Straße.
In Bentfeld, go straight over the traffic circle, then turn right after the church into Berghöfen. At the end turn right (Lippeweg) and at the next opportunity turn left into Schafbreite. Follow this road until you see the quarry ponds and the information board about the excavations on the right.
