Where looms rattle like they used to | Bandweberei Kafka weaving mill

Looms rattle and clatter in the Bandweberei Kafka weaving mill, and sometimes jangling and hissing noises fill in the air inside the listed walls. You might think that the old looms are playing their very own symphony.

High-quality goods, sought after worldwide, and a living industrial museum

The Bandweberei Kafka weaving mill has had an eventful history in every sense of the word. The looms here have been working at full speed for over 100 years producing ribbons, labels and initials. There are no limits to the colours or shapes. The traditionally made textiles are delivered from Wuppertal to designers, clothing manufacturers, museums and private customers around the world.

The Bandweberei Kafka weaving mill originated from a weaving mill in Wuppertal-Langerfeld founded in 1898 by Bernhard Mardey as a “Mietfabrik” (rental factory). Since then, 25 Jacquard looms have been in use here, which time seems to have left unscarred thanks to the loving care they are given. This makes the weaving mill an industrial museum that allows visitors to experience bygone industrial culture at first hand.

Current renovation work at the Bandweberei Kafka weaving mill

Extensive renovation work is currently being carried out. There are no guided tours at the moment and products are only available from the online shop. As soon as the renovation work is complete, tours will be possible again and you will be able to admire and purchase high-quality Jacquard ribbons in a dedicated shop.
