Beyenburg’s crowning glory
The cloister church of St. Mary Magdalene sits like a queen high above the village and reservoir. Built in the late 15th century, it has shaped the familiar skyline of Beyenburg ever since. This picturesque timber-framed village with the small cloister church tower is reflected in the water of the reservoir below it.
The religious community around the cloister church, which was first mentioned in the 8th century, is still very active today. The church is considered a popular wedding venue, even for couples from other religious communities. As Beyenburg is located on the Way of St James, it is also a place where pilgrims pass through.
