Harkotten manor house of Korff

The Korff manor house was built in the classicist style from 1804 to 1806 on the site of a former fortification and is part of the Harkotten double castle complex. In the years that followed, the grounds, including the moats, were redesigned. Today, the former coat of arms hall houses a cosy café and a museum dedicated to the art-historical murals.

A tour of the exterior of Harkotten Manor House is possible at any time. A tour of the interior is only possible by prior appointment or during the opening hours indicated.

History information

In 1308, the knight Henricus II built a massive castle on what is now the site of the double castle of Harkotten. The "Horekotten" had two wings and an imposing middle section. The fortified castle was surrounded by water arms of the Bever and numerous swamps. Thus, the castle was considered impregnable at that time. In 1334, the entire castle complex, as well as the forests and corridors, were divided between two brothers. For centuries, the castle was owned by two families until 1755, when the von Kettler family had the eastern wing demolished. Johann Gröninger then built a representative Baroque castle there. In 1804, the demolition of the western wing was followed by the construction of a new classicist manor house by the architect Adolf Vagedes. The imposing double castle complex is still owned by the von Ketteler and von Korff families today.

Arrival
Arrival by car:
The Harkotten von Korff manor house is located in the eastern Münsterland region on the border with Lower Saxony. The double castle complex is located on the B475 federal road between Glandorf in Lower Saxony and Sassenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Coming from the north: Take the A1 motorway, exit Ladbergen. Continue in the direction of Warendorf on the B475 until you reach Schloss Harkotten. The castle is located in the direction of travel on the left immediately after the Lower Saxony border.
Coming from the south/Münster: Take the A1 or A43 to the Münster-Süd junction. Then continue on the B51 towards Telgte. From Telgte follow the B64 to Warendorf. There take the B475 towards Glandorf (via Sassenberg and Füchtorf). The castle is approx. 800 m after Füchtorf on the right-hand side of the road.
