History

The Schöppingen town hall, built in 1583, characterises the main street with its three-tiered gables, which appeared in Münster in the 15th century. The gables, supported by gothic moulded corbels, feature water hammer and are decorated with gothic and carinated cornices. Striking semi-circular finials and half-palmettes adorn the gables. Windows with stone crosses and wooden shutters characterise the façades. A once asymmetrically positioned stair tower was replaced by a larger staircase in 1914. A stone plaque from 1583 with the Schöppingen coat of arms adorns the entrance.

Inside, the town hall today offers a large room, formerly divided and with an open fireplace, where consultations and meetings were held. The upper floor housed a banqueting hall with arabesques. After various uses, it was extensively renovated in 1976-1979 and is now used for events.
