The LWL Museum of Art and Culture is known far beyond the borders of Westphalia as a regional identity builder and has a special appeal.

The museum displays works ranging from the Middle Ages to the contemporary avant-garde and immerses its visitors in the world of art. The extensive art education and cultural programme also continually opens up new perspectives on art and cultural history for guests. Here, the "magic of the original" can be experienced live and the guest gains an insight into 1000 years of art through different exhibits.

Tour information

The LWL Museum of Art and Culture offers an outstanding guided tour concept. On numerous dates, interested visitors cantake part in public guided tours with different focuses. The guided tours are free of charge - only the entrance fee has to be paid. The number of participants is limited to 20. Tickets are available at the museum ticket office 30 minutes before the tour.

  • Overview of the collection: Saturday and Sunday at 3.15 p.m. each day
  • ArtStories: Tuesdays at 3 p.m.
  • Open studios: Every first Sunday of the month, 2.30 to 5.30 p.m.
  • Epoch Tour: Every Friday at 2.30 p.m.
  • Curator's tour: Every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month from 2 to 2.30 p.m.

Numerous themed cycle routes offer interesting cycling tours through Münsterland. The signposted themed cycle routes each show special contents of the region and thus tell exciting stories about Münsterland. The LWL Museum of Art and Culture in Münster is also connected to various themed cycle routes.

The entrance to the Münsterland cycle path network, which is around 4,500 kilometres long, is directly at the museum.

Arrival
Arriving by car:
Travel to Münster via the A43 and A1 motorways, exit Münster-Süd or Münster-Nord. Continue in the direction of Domplatz/ Prinzipalmarkt. The museum is located at Domplatz 10, 48143 Münster.
Travelling by bus and train:
If travelling by train, use the station "Hbf Münster (Westf.)". From Münster main station it is about a 15-minute walk in the direction of Domplatz/Prinzipalmarkt. Bus lines 1, 10, 11, 13 and 14 also run from the main station to the Domplatz bus stop. Bus lines 12 and 22 go from Münster Central Station to the Aegidiimarkt/ LWL Museum stop. The journey takes around ten minutes.
Parking at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture
The LWL Museum of Art and Culture does not have its own car park. However, due to its location in the centre of Münster, there are plenty of parking spaces available for visitors. It is best to use the parking spaces on Domplatz or the Aegidiimarkt multi-storey car park. These parking facilities are subject to a charge.
