Museum/Exhibition

at the Telsmeyer House

In the Tüöttenmuseum in Mettingen, the history of the linen merchants - the Tüötten - and the development from a peddler's trade to a department store empire is vividly presented.

The museum is divided into three houses, each with a different thematic focus providing insights into the life of the linen merchants. Exhibits such as a loom, a workhorse with bones for the clog maker, an ornate brass bed warmer, a baby's outfit from around 1850 and bobbin lace work serve this purpose. Impressive wall paintings, drawings, photos and reverse glass paintings also provide an insight into the life of the Tüötten and their families.

Information for cyclists
Small nature reserves and natural areas as well as the foothills of the Teutoburg Forest characterise the landscape around Mettingen. Due to the slight hills, a cycle tour can sometimes be more demanding, but cyclists are rewarded with beautiful views. Cycle tours to Tecklenburg or to Hörstel to the Gravenhorst Monastery and the Nassen Dreieck are worthwhile. Those who, like the Tüötten, would like to travel beyond the "borders" for a change, have perfect opportunities from Mettingen to explore the southern Emsland or the Osnabrück region.
The following signposted themed cycle routes lead through Mettingen and bring special features of the region closer:
