Amusement park

The nostalgic amusement park is a popular destination for families with smaller children. In addition to the toboggan run, a 120-metre-long track where you can whizz down on wooden sledges, there are many other attractions such as a fairytale forest, a vintage car express and a trip around the world. Under old beech trees, the terraces of the mountain garden offer seating to enjoy the picnic you have brought with you. Ice cream, coffee and other snacks are also available on site.
The history of the summer toboggan runAs one of the predecessors of roller coasters and the oldest summer toboggan run still in existence in Germany, the summer toboggan run in Ibbenbüren was created in 1926 and is a popular destination for excursions beyond the region. The "northern" mountains of the Teutoburg Forest were already a popular destination for hikes at that time - embedding a toboggan run on rails in the hilly terrain was an obvious choice. The idea of tobogganing without any snow at all was the brainchild of a miner from Ibbenbüren in 1926 (whose family still runs the business in the third and fourth generations). What was very different back then was that children mostly stayed at home, the amusement culture at the time was mainly geared towards adults. Originally, there were three toboggan runs, but for about 40 years now only one run has been active. This is due to safety concerns. The younger ones lacked the prudence of adults and the danger of "running in front of the next toboggan" at the end of the toboggan run was too great. It was not until the Fairytale Forest was built in 1958 that more and more younger guests and young people came to the site and to comparable facilities. Large amusement parks emerged in the 1970s and attracted the older ones. Today, the family-run traditional park in Ibbenbüren occupies the niche for two to eight-year-olds. With its small bumper cars, a miniature railway and even child-friendly food sizes, the park caters to the wishes and needs of the very young. The entrance fee system is also different from that of large amusement parks. You only pay for what you use. This was also typical of parks from the turn of the century. The entire complex has cult status and nostalgic charm, evokes childhood memories and is worthwhile for visitors who do not want to go "higher, faster, further".
