Museum/Exhibition

The history of Gescher is characterised by the broad peat landscape and its development. The (D)Torfmuseum (peat museum) provides insights into the formation of this peatland and the history of the initial peat diggings up to industrial work. In Gescher's former village school, visitors can discover the transformation of the millennia-old peatland with the help of tools, photos and a wide variety of contemporary witnesses such as fossil remains. The museum presents the history of the mighty natural landscape with its diverse flora and fauna up to the present-day cultural landscape of one of the largest raised bogs in Westphalia. Museum educational materials for school classes and children's groups invite you to research and discover.
