Museum/Exhibition

The Alte Ruthemühle, a former water mill in Recke, is now home to a local history and basket museum with a café.

Dödden, mining and clogs - the local history of the Tecklenburg region is multifaceted and offers numerous facets. In addition to the local history collection, visitors will find an extensive exhibition in the basketry museum. The basket-making craft has a long tradition in the Tecklenburg region and was actively practised until the 1950s. Many families made their own wickerwork for domestic use and used it mainly as work baskets.

Demonstrations of old handicrafts and arts and crafts as well as various group tours of the museum are offered to guests on a regular basis.

Tour information
  • A visit to the interior of the museum is only possible during the stated opening hours or on request.
  • A tour of the exterior can be arranged at any time.
