Historic town centre

Hörstel is located in the northern Münsterland at the foothills of the Teutoburg Forest. Water and forest characterise the partly hilly landscape around the town centre with its beautiful historic half-timbered houses. The combination of Münsterland parkland and the Teutoburg Forest offers perfect opportunities for hiking and cycling. Popular excursion destinations are the Torfmoorsee recreation area , the Nasse Dreieck and Gravenhorst Monastery.

But Hörstel is not only known for its forests, meadows and half-timbered houses; the small town is also a stronghold for horse-drawn carriage drivers. The area around the Surenburg in Riesenbeck is the venue for national and international competitions. A highlight of top sport is the annual "Riesenbeck International".
